The Peninsula New York received AAA's most prestigious Five-Diamond Award in 2000, which was awarded to only 59 hotels in North America. Readers of Gourmet Magazine also rated the hotel the third best "Hotel for Business" in North America. The Peninsula completed a $45 million renovation in 1998. Many of the Beaux Arts architectural features of this 1902 landmark formerly known as the Gotham building were retained.
